Maine
has an old and distinguished heritage of guides and guiding. We began
officially on March 19, 1897 when the Maine Legislature enacted a
bill requiring hunting guides to be registered. In that first year,
1316 guides were registered, with Cornelia Thurza Crosby, known as
"Fly Rod Crosby", was given the honor of receiving the first
license. The Grand Lake Stream Guides Association is composed of Registered
Maine Guides who are striving to continue traditional standards of
the guiding in the Grand Lake Stream area. |
We
are professional guides dedicated to promoting a quality, ethical
and legal outdoor experience for all. The guides listed in this directory
are members in good standing of the Grand Lake Stream Guides Association.
All of our guides obey all State and Federal laws, cooperate with
all wildlife officials and landowners, provide quality service and
equipment, promote conservation and education and putting safety above
all else.
Our Association is continually monitoring new and proposed legislation
that affect the guiding industry, the fisheries, wildlife and the
natural resources of the state, and other areas that have potential
impact on the profession. The Association and its members strive to
maintain credentials and qualifications that exceed the requirements
of the law. |
